IPMAT is a national level test conducted by the Indian Institute of Management Indore for admissions to its five-year regular undergraduate academic program.
The program has been accredited by the Association of MBAs, London (4th and 5th Year). IPM is an exam which is aimed at students who have passed out of class XII/Higher Secondary or equivalent from schools across India.
We have provided IPMAT's Section-wise and Subject-wise weightage of marks for your clarity.
We have listed some important points to be kept in mind while preparing for IPMAT.
Balance your 12th Boards with IPMAT Preparation:
Start the preparation 6-9 months before the exam. And, revise it properly after your 12th board exams so that you can make a balance between your 12th board and entrance exam preparation.
You should go through the entire syllabus of IPMAT two months before the boards to concentrate completely on your 12th exams for these two months. Once you are done with 12th boards, start to prepare intensely for IPMAT. The key to crack this exam is to be fairly good at Maths and English.
Master your 11th and 12th Math Basics:
11th and 12th maths topics covered decently enough. You should have a decent understanding of sets, functions, probability, permutations and combinations, algebra, coordinate geometry, geometry, areas and volumes, matrices and logarithm.
You should be able to solve tough questions from these topics accurately and quickly, the time limit for the quantitative section is harsh.
Go through the question paper:
The best thing to do in the quantitative section is to quickly go through all the questions in the beginning, so, you know that where the logical reasoning questions are, and where the other relatively easier maths questions are. In the first attempt choose only most doable questions. Move on to maximize your attempts and avoid very difficult questions. Wisely start solving the portion you are sure about. Ensure that you follow the instructions for attempting the exam.
English:
Focus on English as it is very important to have a strong base in English grammar. Vocabulary also plays a big role. The paper is not very difficult with a medium level of vocab questions and passage solving questions. It is suggested to read daily to be good at this section.
The WAT and the interview:
This is the final round. WAT is just an essay writing question to gauge your level of expression in English. Concentrate on the quality of the essay you are writing rather than making it longer. Always follow this chain- Topic statement ->Reasons -> Explain reasons -> Ending.
If you have a clear outline and have jotted points in a proper manner mentioned here, it will be very easy for you to write an essay. This will help you write an impressive essay. Also, practicing will help you master this section.
For Interview, just be aware of current happenings. The interview is tricky to explain. Mostly you'll be asked from one or two of your core subjects in 12th. Be confident, cheerful and real. You will get through.
Concept Clarity:
Both sections have questions that are concept driven. Hence, it is imperative that you revise and strengthen your basics. Prepare the concepts well, revise them regularly and practice questions for each concept.
Take Mock Tests:
IPMAT is an online test and tests your management skills and knowledge. So, it is important to practice several mock tests. This will condition you to the actual test-taking conditions and help you score well.
Analysis of the Mocks:
It is strongly advised that you do a thorough analysis of the test. Find your strong and weak areas and work on them accordingly. Revise your strong topics regularly and devote extra time and effort to improve the weak ones.
Just taking mocks won't help unless you analyze your performance properly and work on the areas which need extra attention to score well. Your preparation level and scores are well reflected through your mock tests.
Time Management:
There is no section wise time limit of the test, hence you have to be careful about the time management factor. Divide the time wisely between the sections while solving mocks. Allot time to each section and save the last 10-15 minutes for revision. Time Management tricks will only develop with practice.
Take a calculated risk:
The sectional time and negative marking make the choice of questions very important. Do not make wild estimates and approximations. Be very careful with the Verbal ability section as students often tend to make wild guesses.
With Quantitative Aptitude, it is a little easier to apply this even if you are not aware of the concept, but be careful while guessing; at times you might not reach a particular solution.
On the exam day, ensure that you reach the exam centre within the stipulated time and carry the requisite documents like IPMAT 2018 Admit Card and ID proof.
I hope we have covered all the necessary points to be considered while preparing for IPMAT. I am sure this post is going to help you.
