Which is Better, IPM or CAT?

There is no comparison between CAT & IPMAT. CAT is way harder than IPMAT. (Differences are listed below in the tabular form) IPMAT is the exam taken up by students who have just finished school.

So, the course is designed in that manner. Whereas, CAT is taken up by students who have completed their graduation and want to do MBA. So, the difficulty level is obviously more than IPMAT. CAT is taken up by more people in comparison to IPMAT. The competition, therefore, is high in CAT. It is not very tough to crack IPMAT if you have a good hold over Maths & English.

And, The Common Admission Test [CAT] is a three-hour exam with 60 minutes allotted to each of these three sections: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension [VARC] Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning [DILR] Quantitative Ability [QA] All these sections have to be mastered to score well.

IPM is an integrated dual-degree course (Bachelors + Masters) in Management. It gives you an opportunity to study in an IIM right after 12th and without taking CAT Exam. The national level test is a gateway for admission to this 5 year Integrated Program. Getting into an IIM without taking the CAT, and choosing an easy alternative is a smart and safe thing if your long-term goal is to do an MBA.

IPM has a diversified course structure. No matter how much people value your potential and passion but an IIM tag does matter. And getting a 5-year long time to spend in IIM Indore, is a big thing. This time changes a lot of things in and around you. If you plan to do MBA in the long run, take your first step towards it by applying for the IIM IPM course. IPM is in two parts.

The first three years build foundation disciplines, and the last two years focus on management. The first three years will be the base disciplines and the last two years of the program are at Post Graduate Level. These two years are the same as that of the PGP Programme. In addition, students who are preparing for CLAT should almost certainly be writing the IIM IPMAT exam.

This is because the syllabus for IPMAT is very closely related to that of CLAT. Hence, without any additional effort, an alternate career path gets opened up. CAT is a PGP course & can be taken by a graduate of any stream. And, IPMAT is a dual degree course. Students have to invest their 5 precious years into this. We have summarised all the above information in the table below for your easy understanding. Hope it helps.
